Why do men treat women badly? (**This will be a publicly view-able blog entry; you must be logged in to rate or comment.) Well, many use “the Bible” as an excuse. A few samples follow:
Multiple wives, concubines were common when these phrases were written; females, preferably “maidens” (virgins), were stolen in raids, taken as spoils of war for use as slaves and/or sex abuse, and of course, for breeding stock:
- 2 Chronicles 11:21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)
- 2 Chronicles 13:21 But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
- 2 Chronicles 24:3 And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he begat sons and daughters.
- 2 Chronicles 28:8 And the children of Israel carried away captive of their brethren two hundred thousand, women, sons, and daughters, and took also away much spoil from them, and brought the spoil to Samaria.
Oh, but those are merely a history of the barbaric ways of the tribes’ earlier histories (so say some). If so, what explanation then for these following words, supposedly inspired or spoken by ‘god’ and/or ‘jesus’?
- Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
- Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
- Genesis 19:8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. (rape my young daughters instead of these male guests of mine)
- Judges 19:24-26 Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his (male traveler’s) concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing. -:25 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go. -:26 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light. (offer young daughter for rape, but visitor’s concubine instead used, literally, until she died the next morning).
- 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. -:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.
- Deuteronomy 21:11 And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife;
Not codified, but supposedly part of earliest original disciples’ writings, 2 separate “translations”:
- Gospel Of Thomas – source – 114:1-3 Simon Peter said to them, “Make Mary leave us, for females don’t deserve life.” 2- Jesus said, “Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. 3 – for every female who makes herself male will enter the domain of Heaven.”
- Gospel Of Thomas – source – (114) Simon Peter said to him, “Let Mary leave us, for women are not worthy of life.” Jesus said, “I myself shall lead her in order to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who will make herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven.”
It’s obvious the story is created by bronze age misogynistic men, who created a ‘god’ in their own image, of their own limited knowledge, and their own state of mind. If such a super-being actually exists, it is as unworthy of worship as to be equal to those ancient men — and the men of today who continue to use those words to maintain their own “superior positions” in society. For example: ‘God owns you‘ from a UK pastor – “This isn’t the first time a pastor has isolated women apart from men in regards to the same reasonings of the Bible.”
And for the not so cranial-rectal afflicted males of today, why do you allow those kind of men a free-pass? Why is “locker room talk” not recognized for the bigoted, demeaning, hate speech it is? Why do you not speak up, why do you not call on your “brothers” to become more informed? Why do you not tell said “pastor” he’s wrong? Why do you not speak up for your mother, sister, aunt, wife, daughter against this verbal, psychological, and sometimes physical abuse? Some men are taking action; why not you too? Oh, he’s just kidding, or Oh, he’s just being Joe — really? Do you think that somehow makes it okay for him to continue this way? It doesn’t; you know it.
As for women, why do you put up with this? Why do women even want to respect, let alone worship, such a god-head? Don’t allow the men in your life to control you. You are worth more than you know. You are capable of far more than you know. It hasn’t even been 100 years since women were finally granted equal rights at the voting booth in this country. Don’t accept how far we’ve come, dream and know how far we can go. Please know that education really is the way forward. It doesn’t need to be formal education, but it must be fact based education. We’ve heard enough fairy tales. Escape from the ignorant by choice crowd. In this day of instant information, the truth is not that hard to find.
