Live and Let Live Religion Free

What religious beliefs you hold is your personal freedom. That is true of everyone. Everyone has the right to believe whatever they wish, until their belief infringes on anyone else’s freedoms. Your rights and freedoms stop where my rights and freedoms begin. Being a secular nation, your religious beliefs cannot be incorporated into the laws of the land, either federal or state laws. The laws of the land apply to everyone. Your individual beliefs do not.

My personal belief is that “religion” has caused more killing world-wide than any other cause in history. The major religious groups can’t even decide among themselves what their “holy texts” say, which is why every single denomination of “religion” has a dozen to hundreds of different sects each. Many of those sects are willing to kill those of different sects, or denominations or no denomination at all. Others just want to suppress anything that’s “not us” by making laws based on their religious views. Convert or die has been a standard religious cry for over two thousand years. Prior to the rise of the Abrahamic religions, tribes may have fought among themselves over land or resources but not simply because the tribes believed in different goddesses or gods. Even when tribes did skirmish over territory, there was not outright mass murder. Land was ceded or trade deals were made, but entire societies were not obliterated. That took organized, dedicated military style force and concentrated greed.

The above song gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes when I first heard it in I think the 70s, but with the imagery used in this video it is even more poignant, in my opinion.

Treat everyone with respect. Does it matter if they eat pork but you do not? Does it matter that they drink wine but you do not? Does it matter if they are gender fluid but you are not? Does it matter that your skin tone is different from theirs? We are all human. If we can move beyond our minor differences, we will see how similar we really are. We all love and want to protect our children. We are supposedly wise enough to not destroy each other, or our planet. Earth can sustain only so much human caused damage before she will no longer support our form of life. Let’s work together, here, now; for the good of all.

Live & let live. Peace on earth is as simple as that.
